Rooms Become Artistic Canvases for Girls of All Ages
Powell Inks Deal with LittleMissMatched™
(Culver City, CA) September 24, 2007 — For the very first time, girls of all ages will be granted permission to redecorate their rooms on a daily basis. Powell Co. and Miss Matched, Inc. are excited to announce their partnership to roll out a youth furniture line based on the popular tween property LittleMissMatched. The new collection is set to debut next month at High Point Market in North Carolina.
Powell, the case goods, accent and occasional furniture importer, will produce two collections under the LittleMissMatched brand, each of which allows multiple choices of colors and patterns with switchable, flipable panel “KomboNations” that allow today’s tween girl to make a statement that’s all her own.
LittleMissMatched, the ground-breaking company that began with the innovative idea to sell colorful mismatched socks in odd numbers, has developed a huge following among girls of all ages and has since expanded to become a true lifestyle property with lines of sleepwear, swimwear, bedding, gloves, toys and books.
“We’ve taken LittleMissMatched’s core design philosophy that ‘nothing matches but anything goes’ and translated it into the world of youth bedroom furniture,” said Anne Russell, vice president of merchandising for Powell Co. “Today’s tween girl wants her bedroom to be fun, fashionable and ultimately transformable. Our LittleMissMatched collections allow her to make her room entirely her own, and encourage her to express her individuality.”
Each of the Powell groups, LittleMissMatched Metal and LittleMissMatched Wood, incorporate the LittleMissMatched “Zany” polka dot and stripe patterns and color scheme. While both groups exemplify a similar fun factor, they are differentiated by material and color saturation, thus ensuring that each and every girl can find her personal match. While the metal group revolves around choosing her personal combination through a variety of color options, the wood group literally lets the artist within come to life with the original dry-erase board functionality.
The LittleMissMatched Metal group features 23 SKUs with reversible panels of LittleMissMatched’s trademark “Zany” polka dots, stripes and solid colors. The panels may be easily removed and switched around, so girls can create their own color and pattern “KomboNations.” The group contains several different bed and loft options, including a whimsical new Rotating Twin Headboard. Powell has also addressed tween girls’ ever-changing need for workspace with several innovative pieces, including a reinvention of the age old roll-top desk, which folds the entire workspace away behind doors when not in use.
Powell’s LittleMissMatched Wood group, available in white, is surfaced in dry erase material, so girls can decorate their furniture with their own artwork, poetry or doodles — and change it all up the next day! The line features reversible panels that peek through circular motifs to show a splash of color or pattern. It’s up to each girl whether to go for polka dots, stripes or solids — or a combination thereof — and she can change her mind as often as she likes. Clear panels are also included so girls can place photos of their friends or idols in the spaces if they wish.
“Never before have kids been given permission to be as creative as they want to be, to redecorate their rooms as often as they like. That’s what this line is about – creating truly innovative products to meet the needs of kids today while satisfying the requirements of parents,” said Jonah Staw, co-founder and CEO of LittleMissMatched.
